| Hortense Miller Garden Established in 1959, the garden covers 2.5 acres of an upper slope of North Laguna. See more than 1,500 plant species, along with a natural history and horticultural library. The Garden demonstrates the range of plants which can be grown in Southern California coastal zones and provides a source of inspiration and information for visitors planning their own gardens. Docent led tours. Advance reservations are required; book your visit through the City’s Recreation Dept. at the phone number above, during normal business hours. Admission is free. No children under thirteen. Donations are welcome. |

| Ocean Institute The Ocean Institute is Orange County’s award-winning experiential educational organization, dedicated to inspiring all generations to become responsible stewards of our oceans. Dedicated to school tours during the week, on weekends, the Ocean Institute opens its doors to the public to inspire life-long learning. Exhibits on marine science, environmental education and maritime history are designed to provide multiple levels of depth and interactivity. Weekends offer family-friendly lab activities, octopus and jellyfish feedings and viewing sea creatures. Ship-board opportunities include: Marine wildlife, marine mammal, Blue Whale safari and nighttime bioluminescence cruises aboard the 70-foot floating laboratory, the R/V Sea Explorer; an adventure sail aboard the 118-foot Spirit of Dana Point; enjoy tours, musical and theatrical performances aboard the Pilgrim, a full-size replica of the brig immortalized by Richard Henry Dana in his classic novel, Two Years Before the Mast. Reservations are recommended for any cruise you are planning to attend; reservations can be made online. Children must be 4 years or older to attend. Admission: (13+ yrs.) $6.50; Youth (3-12 yrs.) $4.50; Kids (2 yrs. and under) Free. |

| Orange County Natural History Museum Located at the entrance to Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, the museum is dedicated to the preservation, exhibition and interpretation of Orange County’s natural history. Visitors can learn about the region’s habitat, its climate and its animals—both past and present. Please call before visiting to confirm the museum is open. | Pacific Marine Mammal Center The only marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation center in Orange County, the nonprofit Pacific Marine Mammal Center specializes in rescue, rehabilitation and release of elephant seals, northern fur seals, harbor seals, California sea lions and cetaceans. Visitors can view the seals and sea lions as they are being brought back to health. PMMC also offers an educational program that teaches individuals about the effects of pollution on our environment and how one can make changes in their lives to reduce these effects. Their gift shop features 100% organic clothing and brochures printed on recycled paper with soy based ink. Donations accepted. (Reservations for groups larger than 10 people required. Fees apply for large group tours). |
